What's Inspiring: Bleu de Lectoure
This small sketch was inspired by Napoleon putting back into fashion the use of woad to dye army uniforms of the French Empire. I used woad paint I bought in Lectoure to color it. Currently in France, there is a revival of bleu de lectoure, a beautiful blue pigment that is derived from Woad leaves. Used for centuries, it became virtually obsolete with the arrival of indigo.
